You are eligible for the 9/11 Mental Health and Substance Abuse Program if you enrolled prior to January 2, 2007 and:
if you are a family member or shared a home with any of the people whose situations are listed here. Financial assistance for treatment is retroactive to September 11, 2001 and will cover dates of service through December 31, 2007. That means if you are eligible and you received treatment after the initial attacks, your out-of-pocket costs may still be covered. Our staff is available to assist you as you decide what services are right for you and your family. We can also help you find a licensed professional in your community. The types of treatment you can explore are: Counseling and Psychotherapy, where you talk about your problems and feelings and ways to deal with them. Group Therapy, which provide you with an opportunity to talk with others who may share your experiences, with the guidance and facilitation of a licensed professional. Family Therapy provides family members with a safe and structured place to talk about problems and feelings and ways to deal with them. Couples Counseling allows couples to talk with a licensed professional about issues such as stress or change and identify alternate strategies to improve communication. Art Therapy, where adults or children can work with a certified therapist to express feelings or issues through art. Medication can be used to treat problems like depression or anxiety. Substance Abuse Programs help people detox from alcohol or drugs and maintain a drug or alcohol free lifestyle. Hospitalization and Inpatient Rehabilitation may be necessary if you are experiencing a mental health or substance abuse related emergency. Substance Abuse Treatment for problems with alcohol and/or drug abuse related to the events of September 11th. Auricular Acupuncture which applies acupuncture to the outer ear. It can be used for alcohol or drug abuse, or for anxiety and other kinds of problems. Psychological evaluation and testing services are available for children under the age of 21. The American Red Cross helps you to cover the cost of mental health treatment, including individual, family, couples and group counseling, auricular acupuncture, and psychotropic medication. The assistance available to you covers up to a maximum amount and supplements any insurance you already have. Assistance is available retroactively for services received since 9/11/01, as well as for future mental health costs received on or prior to December 31, 2007. The program provides assistance for:
