Be continuity of care between inpatient and outpatient facilities remains a challenge. Current hospital payments assume that hospitals shall actively in discharge and transition to outpatient clinics and ambulatory care providers support the payments for support in this process as redundant involved. This undermines the ability of providers of mental health services “to its customers a smooth transition between service settings.

Meet certification requirements for radio programs and mental health professionals created new challenges. The community behavioral professionals, who can not meet the standards for the accreditation of private insurers (eg, 3 years after approval of the experience). Community providers have this replaced by contractual agreements, in which the quality assurance and monitoring requirements in the standards for accreditation, approached. Services are under a monitoring protocol, in which the identifier national provider of professional supervision will be charged.

In addition, some programs offer services that rely on a combination of funding sources such as county, state and private insurers. In these cases, counties, customers want to limit access to private insurance “in these programs, because part of the entire program is covered by the community.

Impact of the cuts the state budget on mental health -

In a dramatic shift that could have foreseen the dilemmas faced by other states, Minnesota Governor vetoed funding for the program on the state of psychiatric care. The Parliament would have extended the program for several months, was negotiated a compromise to retain elements of the cover for the population of the state mental health -. “Coordinated Systems of Care” funds compensated hospital care, medical / pharmaceutical industry and in the system, a program paid for the hospital-centered a fixed amount to about 40% of the population of the state of mental illness, who decided to take cover. Since there is no reimbursement for outpatient hospital and all non-service providers and consumers are now crawling to seek review of the disability or enroll in a Medicare-type coverage ends after six months of mental health insurance coverage deadline.

Although these reductions only by first June 2010 will effectively be expected to lead to an increased burden on health systems and hospitals without municipal providers of safety nets.

How to minimize the impact of budget cuts on mental health?

Many member organizations representing non-profit community mental health and other service providers in Minnesota are in coalition with groups of National Mental Health Advocacy worked with mental health related changes in health programs. First, lobbying at the state parliament in favor of promoting the expansion of Medicaid beginning in additional federal funds (as obtained in national health care reform vote is concentrated). Unfortunately, this is proven to be politically untenable in the immediate future, however, was a measure adopted in order to use the governor of the executive authority to expand Medicaid for patients with mental disorders.

While is actively involved in advocacy are crucial for the community health system, behavioral, mental health, national education and Medicaid members, the assessment of how they can optimize their business practices to this changing reality Budget react. Among other strategies, community service providers in behavioral disturbances are working to develop partnerships with community hospitals to reduce preventable deaths and emergency room visits in order to facilitate the transition from inpatient to outpatient, to support its customers through disability determinations by the process so that they may be eligible for Medicaid as soon as possible, and funds to cover the needs of cost-sharing for mental health and sponsored registered customers that can not be paid.

Contains this two-pronged approach that both the defense and pragmatic business considerations, it is hoped that the community health system performance will be in a position to develop new cost-effective ways to deliver services that will be well positioned to withstand supply changes in funding under the new possibilities provided by the national health initiatives and national health reform.

The working environment can be very stressful for everyone. Pressure from superiors, colleagues and long working hours can be very toxic to mental and physical health. Burnout usually occurs in those who follow can not meet the requirements of the workplace for reasons whatsoever. Although stress in our lives every day, large quantities of it can have negative effects. Too much stress at work causes a lot of health problems such as anxiety disorders, depression, fatigue and tension increased. It can also significantly reduce the productivity of a worker. Job stress can also reduce the risk of serious physical and mental problems!

Symptoms are observed for anxiety, depression, stomach problems, decreased libido, fatigue, insomnia and back pain. If you experience these symptoms, they should take a break and to management and tell them about the problem they have.

Research shows that about a third of current workers at a high level of workplace stress. Absences often result from stress-related illnesses and the costs the employer a lot of money. To improve productivity and employee relations, some companies now offer programs to reduce workplace stress. They offer advice and risk assessment of stress for employees.

To help social events such as regular meetings, parties and excursions in the treatment of certain tensions office. You can also have opportunities to create awareness of stress among the employees. Regular higher salaries and promotion helps a lot in employee morale and their confidence strengthened. Some companies even have the most direct route with less stress for the programs for their employees such as flexible work schedules, and worksheets made a career. Motivation is very important, so employers should be sensitive to the psychosocial needs of their employees. If they want to make the most of their business, they should invest in the protection and well-being of the mental health of their employees. Studies show that most companies save the mental health wellness programs too much money because of the significantly reduced absenteeism and higher productivity.

The treatment of depression, stress are varied. There are many ways for employees to cope with stress in the workplace. The company was forced to have a program for mental health, but a program is usually not sufficient. We must mobilize the positive thinking and be able to take responsibility for their own health to take over. Better communication with employers and generally positive outlook on the work can significantly reduce stress at work. If you are under stress at work and / or depression, it is very important to correct the help immediately. The sooner you seek help for your depression related symptoms when you are on the mend. As a mental health problem is not treated more dense and complex, is the problem. Early intervention is very important.

This article is part two of a series of five, the interesting, unique and noteworthy trends in the profession of mental health examined. It is understood the current and future changes in our industry are the ability to create new opportunities and challenges identified in the field, so that we can identify appropriate measures and successfully meet the demands of our dynamic profession. The exploration process allows professionals to make business decisions more effective and more rewarding for now and in the future. The study of these changes often lead to exciting opportunities if we are able clinicians, this new service offerings and competitive influences in the watch a unique and creative.

Treatment programs online

A region of interest that arise in the industry, is that the treatment program online. This model goes beyond individual psychotherapy, and offers a comprehensive approach to treatment, group work, interactive exercises, the use of clinical tools, patterns of usage evaluation and follow-up care may include programming.

An example of this approach by an organization such as the e Going Get introduced is known, Inc., this organization offers a program of drug treatment for adults over the age of 18 years with live video and audio technology, the traditional treatment model on the to simulate 12-step principles. Participants are part of a group of online processing, spread over several months. They use a highly structured treatment model and an empirical basis and to offer each of its participants with a headset and microphone so that they can interact with a group of up to 10 participants. A counselor helps each group and the participants also received individual counseling as needed. In addition, EgetGoing, Inc., a monitoring program for college graduates for success in an effort to former members, to assist in the community. This also gives them the ability to track results and identify risk factors after treatment.

This type of model is a large company, and currently it is still in its infancy. But organizations like EgetGoing adventurous, Inc. is making a valiant effort to provide this solution as an alternative to conventional treatments. It is an exciting area to explore in the near future, as technology provides physicians the opportunity to walk the boundaries and explore the use of this format into other areas of treatment. This model also has a business perspective, because it offers potential customers a strong value proposition, which may differ from its traditional competitors promised. Some of the most important values ??for potential consumers have easy access and convenience of the approach, total confidentiality and quickly in a world over. However, some argue that this also gives customers the option of treatment in a subtle way, by an alternative treatment that resist require less commitment. Regardless of this argument can be people who need treatment services in the future should be sought on the treatment over the Internet. Perhaps this is a stepping stone for a long-term treatment with which he draws the attention of those who question or doubt about the treatment they need to serve. As a result, they choose an online option as a way to try to “test the waters.” One big question is whether this model is also an easy entry to go and serve a viable option for more traditional treatment model.

My reason for addressing the subject of treatment programs in line with other trends in the profession of mental health clinicians is to provide practitioners with the information they provide unique perspectives, approaches, concepts and offer ideas about the clinical process. This information should be an overview of the practice that could come in the future as a challenge and opportunity. One possibility could be a complete treatment program line in its many variants and specialties.

If you want more information on this model, I suggest you take a look at the website EgetGoing: www.egetgoing.com

A few weeks ago, the tragedy in Arizona has renewed calls to curb the heated political rhetoric. Standing, from earlier arguments in favor of this action, the shooting of the way for debate in our country is investing in mental health services. Although we do not yet know whether the shooter from schizophrenia or any other disease has suffered, it is time for mental health takes its place on the national agenda.

Many argue against investment in these services, saying it is a private matter. Obviously there is a struggle that people in their own way. Show, however, tragedies such as Arizona and across the country, why do we have to take the problem seriously. Many public problems with mental illnesses increase, which is the reduced productivity at work, less participation in civil society, and in some cases even tragic events such as suicide, self harm and crime. Obviously it’s an investment, if we resolve to be able to address these problems and prevent the negative effects of capital that can be attributed to mental illness.

Others argue that mental health is not a defined science, or is less important than other investments, we need to do. It is true that we do not devote all our resources to the problem of mental illness, how could we not to any other program. But investing in projects that have to pay for itself or on the original investment in the kinds of issues we are involved in. The economic and social benefits of good mental health should be a leader in investment. Imagine the potential for innovation and less work experience as a case of mental illness. A man or woman who can not walk to work to their own business or take care of their own families could then afford the Company upon receipt of necessary services. Even if we do not fully understand the treatment of mental health are investments in reducing these problems is worth the cost of acquisition.

Like other public health programs should provide services to those who need it are offered and can not afford it otherwise. Start increasing the budget for mental health services would be to the discrepancy between the services to eliminate the physical and mental health services, not only in the health system of government, but our industry’s overall health. Mental health is a service that is unaffordable for many Americans (even demand), the increase in part to the low availability (supply). With a significant proportion of the population with symptoms of illness, mental health is an investment we need to do for the common good.

There are others who can not afford, we say state funding for mental health services at this time. It is true that our budget crisis, incomprehensible to most Americans (and especially our politicians) is. But to reduce by means of the unnecessary programs in an attempt to significant mental illness, is to pay off the investment and economic performance, higher social and a lower risk of tragedies such as Arizona.

These are difficult times and economic policies seriously, and no major investment should not be taken lightly. However, investment in mental health, provides clear performance for the money. This is not a system of health care, that the debate is in Washington to describe already. Rather, we need the political agenda in a serious discussion about how we provide care for people with mental illness and begin to take a serious problem for our nation today in the attack.

Improve the mental health system

According to a press release of 9 May 2006, the “Standing Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology” in Canada recommended the creation of a Canadian Mental Health Commission is responsible for the significantly upgrade Canada’s system of mental health. As Senator Michael Kirby, chairman of the committee, said: “The Senate is to improve service, quality and organization of health services and support that are required by the tens committed thousands of Canadians living with mental illness and addiction.”

The financing of the proposed amendment

Based on a comprehensive three-year study on mental health and substance abuse, the Committee determined that it was $ 5360000000 for over 10 years for the upgrade of the mental health system costs. Where will the money come from? The Committee believes that the revenue will come from increasing the excise duty on alcoholic drinks by 5 cents per drink.

Part of the reason for the increase of 5 cents per drink was apparently the target of raising funds for the proposed changes in the psychiatric system. Another factor to justify the price increase, however, was that there is going to cost any alcoholic beverage, drink less alcohol, more Canadian products such as beer and wine instead of liquor.

Do the math

At first glance this proposal seems to make sense. Why are not the ones to fund a program that will provide a mental health system better to drink? Why not let those who are part of the “problem” part of the “solution” be? This logic seems sound until you do the math. 5360000000 If $ is needed to better contribute to the financing of mental health, then, how many drinks should be consumed in ten years to reach $ 5.36 billion in a period of time? The answer: 107 200 000 000 drinks. It is 107 billion, 200 million beverage.

In order to accomplish this, how many glasses per year, all we need do, is to divide that number by 10 (for the ten-year program) and the result is 10,720,000,000th This is still a large number, which can fortunately be “massaged” even more. According to the website World Factbook, Canada had a population of 33 million people estimated in 2006. Divided by 325, equivalent to 10.72 billion 33,000,000th Set them understand about the average person can, every man, woman and child in Canada alcoholic beverages to 325 per year for the next 10 years to fund new mental health system! In other words, these figures are not realistic.

Other defects

The “logic” of the proposed mental health program also breaks down when it is discussed in more depth. For example, why people drink less alcohol products like beer, when the excise tax increase applies to all alcoholic beverages? To understand this better, we use an example. Let us assume that the average intake in Canada currently costs $ 3.00 and the average beer costs $ 1.00. Based on the increased price, if Joe drank an average of 5 shots per week, spending an average weekly alcohol will be $ 15.25. If the numbers are calculated, which is out of 1.7% would be more happening than Joe, have suggested before the tax increase. Have a similar exercise with beer. Based on the expected price increase, if Pete drinks 5 beers on average per week, spending an average weekly alcohol will be $ 5.25. If the numbers are calculated, which is out to be 5% higher than Pete had passed before the tax increase proposed. The point: Since the proposed price increase is more alcohol products (such as plans) proportionately less than their low-alcohol (like beer), why the Canadians spend more than low-alcohol products?

Alcohol and mind

One other question. What is that you know, tens of thousands of Canadians and that alcohol was not for her “mental health” to significantly reduce their drinking water well or quit drinking without alcohol? Where does the money come from to compensate for this lack of income? Even if you decide to drink thousands and thousands of Canadians, the alcoholic drinks that they do not want to pay additional excise duty and therefore, stop to drink alcoholic beverages? When this happens the government to transform the mental health system money? In other words, the Canadian government has a “Plan B” to be realistic, this great change?

A logical contradiction

From another angle, it is not ironic that those who pay for alcoholic beverages are outdated for the mental health system? Is not that a contradiction in the logic somewhere in this proposal? That is, when tens of thousands of Canadians suffer from mental illness or alcohol or drug abuser, not the government would want to drink less alcohol, the Canadians to reduce alcohol abuse and alcoholism existing alcohol problems in mental health? But from within the current proposal for mental health, from a purely financial standpoint, it seems that the Canadian government, the bank full upgrade of the mental health, based on historical data, which strongly suggests that Canadians continue drinking at the current level or increased consumption.

Miscalculations budget

What happens, for example, if there are cost overruns in the proposed mental health system? Of course there are two “easy” solutions to this problem: increasing the excise tax on each drink or motivate Canadians to consume more alcohol. Or “solution” lies in the fact that in order to “work”, the mental health system improvements will be financed by Canadians to consume alcoholic beverages on.

Completion

It seems logical to conclude that the Canadian Mental Health needs an overhaul. Exhaustive, as with most government programs, but the question of financing is one of the biggest obstacles to overcome. The upgrade of the mental health of Canada proposed system is no exception. Based on the above reasons, it seems clear that the Canadian government needs to happen to other sources of revenue generation for this exciting project. In fact, to emphasize a big “mistake” in the current proposal, consider the following question: When is drinking response “good thing”: If it means a national network of modernization of the mental health system. Something tells me that Andy Rooney of “60 Minutes” would have a lot of fun with him.
