If you still don't feel like yourself, you may still be feeling the effects of 9/11 – and so might your family. It can take a while to recognize your symptoms: sleeplessness, headaches, feeling afraid to go out or drinking too much, for instance.
You and your family may be eligible to receive mental health or substance abuse treatment for free or at low cost, if you were directly affected by the 9/11 attacks. This program is available regardless of where you live, your insurance coverage, or your immigration status if you enrolled before January 2, 2007. To find out if you enrolled before the deadline, please call 212-614-6384 or - if you are calling from outside the New York area - 866-807-5994. Coverage is retroactive to 9/11/01 and will cover services received on or prior to December 31, 2007. The program is funded by the American Red Cross and administered by the Mental Health Association of New York City.
The deadline for enrollment in the 9/11 Mental Health and Substance Abuse Program has passed. Call 1-800-LIFENET for a referral to other low-cost mental health treatment.
